Lawline had the pleasure of recently hiring John Tan to join our Marketing department. He was more than happy to let me put a spotlight on him when I asked. Here's John experience on starting at Lawline:
1) How was the interview process for you?
Fairly straightforward. Saw the job posting on LinkedIn and read up on Lawline as I was unfamiliar with them at the time. Liked what I read as far as the company work culture and mission statement goes, and decided to throw my hat into the ring. A couple of days later our fantastic Business Ops assistant, Kathleen Boyle, reached out and organized a couple of phone interviews and thankfully my on-site interviews. They couldn't have been more accommodating with my schedule! In fact, I wasn't aware of the work from home Wednesday policy at the time, and when that was the only day I was able to come in, they were more than happy to acquiesce.
My first on-site interview was with a couple of members from senior Management, Rich Hernandez (my would be manager), and Sigalle Barness. For me, interviews are always nerve wracking and despite having been on a few in my career, this one was no different walking into it. Immediately, Rich and Sigalle put me at ease with their calming personalities, and I knew right away these are the people I would want to work with.
The second on-site was about 1-2 weeks later; this time consisted of two rounds with multiple people from all levels of the company. It was a nice personal touch because I was able to get a sense of how the company operated from all different angles. About a week later after my work references went through a vetting process, I was extended an offer which I happily accepted.
2) Before stepping foot into the office, how did you imagine Lawline would be?
This is kind of embarrassing but I thought everyone I would be working with would have a law degree.
3) What was your first day like? Was it like you thought it would be?
Even though it was a little over a month ago, I can't remember much from my first day as it was a blur. I do remember everyone being extremely nice and welcoming.
4) What would you say is your GROW moment?
Learning that such an industry like Continuing Legal Education (CLE) exists and all of the projects Lawline is doing to improve that experience. Aside from that, Lawline's cultivating work environment has elevated me to match all the amazing work the team consistently puts out.
5) Do you have a favorite PLAY occasion?
Learning and sharing fun facts with my neighbors like the one below.
6) Anything you'd like to share?
Did you know that there are over 5,000 potato varieties in Peru?
