We Escaped!

From the worlds of Super Mario Bros. to Myst to Assassins Creed, I have always been a gamer.  As both a reader and an avid movie buff, I always felt games was the perfect melding of the two - with the added bonus of active engagement.  So, when the Lawline Culture Committee met a few weeks ago to decide what fun things we could do as a company, I immediately jumped on a new way to game: Escape the Room NYC.

For anyone unfamiliar with the concept, Escape the Room is an interactive gaming experience in New York City that puts players in a seemingly ordinary room that is actually a puzzle.  The goal - escape in 60 minutes by collaborating as a team to find clues, hidden objects, and solve the puzzles. Cool, right?

Eight Lawliners decided to take the challenge, myself included.  The room looked like your average NYC apartment - smartly furnished, compact and with tons of character.  As soon as the door was closed and the time began, everyone whipped into action.  It was like watching 8 detectives just tear the place apart. Everything was fair game - chess pieces and books, dvd players and microwaves, even a random Chinese food delivery menu (which Lawliner, Mike, ordered food from which later helped unlock a clue).

What impressed me most was how everyone proved to be truly creative and collaborative thinkers.  Lawliners like Stephanie had a knack at finding hidden clues while Lawliners like Joe made the needed connections to move us forward. Everyone clearly had a specific skill they naturally embraced and brought to the table - allowing for some really cool skill sharing for a larger goal.

We all ended up escaping the room with over 3 minutes to spare!  See our celebratory picture below!
