Give Back Days offer an opportunity to step away from our daily routines and support causes that matter most to us. For Dan Anslow O’Rourke, Lead Producer, the day was deeply personal, centered on family, advocacy, and honoring loved ones through meaningful action.
How did you use your Give Back Day?
I dedicated my Give Back Day to volunteering at the second annual Rock It for Rocket fundraiser. Much of my time was spent helping with event setup and preparing the space, especially since this was the first year the fundraiser would be covered by local news. Ensuring everything was organized and ready for their visit that morning felt both exciting and deeply meaningful.
What was meaningful or memorable about the experience?
This experience was incredibly meaningful because the cause directly impacts my family. We’re supporting something that has touched our lives in a very real and painful way. There is a deep emotional connection rooted in both trauma and resilience, which makes contributing to this fundraiser especially important to us.
One of the most touching moments was watching my husband speak about glioblastoma. He shared important statistics, explained why awareness and funding matter, and honored my sister-in-law, whose dedication each year truly brings this event to life. Seeing him speak so passionately and vulnerably reminded me of exactly why this fundraiser means so much to our family and made me feel incredibly proud of him.
What would you say to encourage others to use their Give Back Day?
I’d tell everyone not to overthink it. Giving back doesn’t have to be a huge production. It can be something small or something big, as long as it means something to you and helps someone else. The most important part is simply taking the opportunity to do it.
We have these days for a reason, and using them honestly feels really good. If there’s a cause you care about or a community that could use a little extra support, take the day and go for it. You’ll feel great knowing you did something that made a difference, no matter how big or small.
