Celebrating Black History Month: A Panel Discussion
In honor of Black History Month, we gathered for a meaningful panel discussion hosted by our Minority Employee Resource Group (MERG), facilitated by Gabby DiSilvio, Lead Learning Solutions Attorney. The event featured three of our inspiring panel members:
The event was about sharing cultural experiences within the black community and an opportunity to explore how understanding each other's perspectives can foster stronger relationships and connections.
Throughout the panel, Miylie, Joy, and Ariel spoke vulnerably about their personal experiences, covering topics like cultural traditions, navigating non-inclusive spaces, the role of art and music in the culture, and mental health. Ariel shared how she passes down New Orleans crawfish and festival traditions to her family, while Joy’s story about navigating conversations around her different hairstyles and receiving compliments resonated deeply with the audience. Miylie spoke about the importance of being authentic, especially when you may be the “only one.” Together, their stories reminded us of the power of listening with empathy and being open to learning from one another.
By listening and learning, we build a stronger, more inclusive company culture. These moments of connection help us appreciate the different experiences we all bring to our work environment. Here are a few direct anonymous quotes following the event:
Let’s continue to take the time to connect, learn from each other, and pause to listen to the stories that shape those around us!
