You Have Give Back Days. Here's Why You Should Actually Use Them.

By Miylie Roan

This month, Michele and I had the opportunity to present at the NALP Annual Education Conference in Hollywood, FL, and I want to take a moment to share what each of us brought to that stage, because both topics are conversations I think every people leader should be having.

My Session: Stay Interviews: Conversations That Keep Talent

I presented alongside Matthew Galando and Kathryn Marquez. Stay interviews are one of the simplest, most effective retention tools available, and one of the most consistently underused. The premise is straightforward: instead of waiting until someone gives notice and then asking why they're leaving, you ask them what makes them want to stay while they're still there. What's working? What isn't? What would make their experience here even better?

Employee feedback changes things if you actually listen to it and act on what you hear. Communication after the process is the part that matters most!

Michele's Session: Coaching to Values: Retain Mid-Levels and Prevent Burnout

Michele presented alongside Laura Yerhot, Melissa Berry, and Kendra Brodin. Her session focused on something that doesn't get enough attention: Mid-level employees are often the most at risk for burnout and turnover, and one of the most powerful ways to retain them is to coach them in alignment with their personal values, not just their job descriptions.

When people feel like their work connects to something they actually care about, they stay. When they feel like a cog in a process, they don't. It really is that human.

Why This Matters for Lawline

Both of these topics reflect exactly what we try to build here: a culture where people feel heard, developed, and connected to something meaningful. Being able to take those conversations to a national stage felt like a genuine reflection of the work we do every day.
