David Schnurman, Chief Executive Officer

In Silicon Valley, entrepreneurial companies start in a garage. In Silicon Alley, however, they start in a kitchen. After starting an online TV show for entrepreneurs called TrueNYC, David realized there was a bigger opportunity to bring an online learning format to the legal industry. In 2007, he restarted Lawline - working out of a kitchen for the first two years. His focus was building a company and culture the likes of which no one had seen since Google. While that is still a work in progress, he looks to companies like Apple - which had  a long-term trajectory to success - for inspiration. On a personal level, David is an avid marathon runner, is on the board of Entrepreneur’s Organization NY, and regular mentor to budding entrepreneurs. He lives in Park Slope with his wife Kelli and  three beautiful children: Josh, Leila, and Jonah.

Richard Hernandez, Chief Operating Officer

I began my Lawline journey in customer support, answering calls and emails. From there, I had the opportunity to work directly in and eventually lead marketing, product development, and customer experience – each at different times – before transitioning into my current role as COO. This journey has given me a deep appreciation for every aspect of the business and a hands-on understanding of what makes Lawline tick. Today, I focus on strategy and operations, aiming to create just enough structure to keep things running smoothly without stifling innovation.

Outside of work, I enjoy staying active through various activities—from CrossFit and pick-up basketball to hiking, running, and anything else that gets me moving in a new way. I also love tackling DIY projects around the house, traveling, and spending time with my wife and two young children, Olive and Baker. And if there's one thing I always try to bring to any situation, it's a good laugh

Michele Richman, Chief People Officer

From Courtrooms to Triathlons: A Passion for People and Adventure

As the Chief People Officer at Lawline, I oversee HR, Legal, and Operations—but what truly energizes me is coaching and developing top talent. I design and lead emerging leaders training programs and provide leadership coaching for all team managers. I’m passionate about leadership development, both internally and externally, and I regularly lead coaching trainings and speak at legal conferences about our successful HR processes. My journey to coaching and people operations has been anything but ordinary. I’ve been a democratic activist, a government prosecutor, and even a personal injury attorney—all of which shaped my love for advocacy and people development.

I stay active with my local women’s triathlon group and have completed two sprint triathlons. I also love pickleball, cardio boxing, hiking, discovering great restaurants, traveling with my family, and spending time with my husband, David, and our two sons, Max and Eli.

Alyssa Mrzljak, Business Operations Manager

From Jersey to the Desert

Born and raised in New Jersey, I graduated from Rowan University with a degree in English Literature and spent 10 years working in NJ/NY before trading my NJ Transit ticket for a one-way ticket to Arizona. Now, I live in the desert with my husband, our toddler, and our two dogs, enjoying the sunshine and endless hiking trails.

A lifelong book lover, I’ve set a goal to read 104 books this year, and as a family, we make it a mission to try a new local coffee shop every weekend—so far, we’ve visited over 30 unique small businesses. I love discovering new places, trying new things, and embracing the Southwest lifestyle—one hike, one latte, and one cactus at a time!

Miylie Roan, Senior HR Generalist

Everything Happens for a Reason

I’m living life in Cleveland, Ohio—also known as CLE! It felt like kismet when I discovered Lawline, especially with their focus on CLE (Continuing Legal Education), and I knew it was the company to begin a next chapter in my career after working in the medical device industry.

During college, I took a recruiting and selection class and immediately knew HR was the field for me. Since graduating, I’ve been driven by my passion for supporting the full employee experience. Whether it’s onboarding new hires, helping people grow in their careers, or finding ways to keep employees engaged, I love being involved in every step of the journey. Outside of work, I enjoy staying active in workout classes, taking walks with my husband and daughter, and—like many of us—getting lost in the world of TikTok.

Amanda Knittel, Accounting Manager

Financing and Gardening - A life in Balance

Born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, I now call East Hampton, Connecticut, home, where I live with my husband, daughter, and our beloved dog. My passion for finance and lifelong learning led me to earn my MBA from Western Governors University—because when it comes to numbers and strategy, I’m always up for the challenge!

But when I’m not deep in spreadsheets, you’ll find me outside, embracing my favorite hobbies. Whether I’m getting my hands dirty in the garden, hiking through the woods, or tearing through Maine’s trails on snow machines and quads with my sons, I thrive on adventure. And with a brown belt in Kenpo Karate, I believe in keeping life balanced—between work, learning, and the thrill of the great outdoors!

Meredith Cohen, Director of Customer Experience

My Dreams of Jeopardy!

I joined Lawline in 2012 and now proudly serve as the Director of Customer Experience. After graduating from Northeastern University, I earned my MBA from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst in 2015 while juggling my role at Lawline. These experiences have taught me how to balance both my personal and professional growth. When I’m not working on improving customer experiences, I’m running marathons, chasing my toddler, and trying my hardest to get on 'Jeopardy!'.

Michelle deGonzague, Customer Support Manager

What's Better Than Reality TV and Dogs?

I’m Michelle, born and raised on Long Island, and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Mass Media Studies from Hofstra University. My love for creativity runs deep, and I enjoy expressing that through hobbies like face painting and decorating empty bottles and jars—it’s all about finding beauty in the everyday!

When I’m not helping our customers, you’ll find me binge-watching my favorite reality TV shows (because who doesn’t love a good drama?) or spending quality time with my family, friends, and, of course, my dogs. They’re the real stars of my life!

Erika Tremblay, Applications and Compliance Manager

College Roots, Country Heart, and Claude the Cat

My passion for education has shaped much of my career. I spent many years working in Student Life and Admissions, and eventually created and led a Graduate Academic Advising program. After earning both my B.A. in History and a Master of Public Administration from Pace University, I’ve stayed close to my roots—just an hour north of New York City—though I’m a country girl at heart.

In my free time you’ll find me snuggling my cat (and son), Claude, trying to pet any animal within reach, reading, or spending time with my husband and friends at the local orchard. Life’s sweeter with animals and fresh air!

Ariel Johnson-Pena, Attorney Compliance Coordinator

From Wine to Law

I was born in Lafayette, LA, raised in Houston, TX, and my path has taken me through a variety of experiences. I earned my B.B.A. in Marketing from Texas Tech University in 2015 and spent some time in the wine industry before going back to school to pursue my Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 2020.

When I’m not keeping things compliant at work, you can find me spending quality time with my husband, daughter, and son, or playing volleyball. I enjoy hosting game nights with family and friends because life’s all about balance and fun!

Laura Khullar, Applications & Approvals Coordinator

Learning is My Passion

Originally from Clinton, Iowa, I now call Fort Worth, Texas, home. My journey has been an exciting one, as I work toward completing my B.S. in Project Management at Ohio University’s Russ College of Engineering, building on my A.S. in General Studies. Before joining Lawline in August 2024 as the Applications and Approvals Coordinator, I gained valuable experience in Graduate Medical Education (GME), which further fueled my passion for lifelong learning.

I enjoy experimenting with Indian cuisine—an inspiration from family trips to India—and incorporating its culture into my daily life. On the weekends, I love paddleboarding on Texas lakes with my husband and son, embracing nature and adventure.

PRODUCTION TEAM

Daniel O’Rourke, Senior Video Producer

From the World Stage to Lawline's Studio

After earning my B.S. in TV/Video Production from SUNY Plattsburgh in 2013, I jumped into the freelance video world. Spending a couple years in front and behind the camera. I was lucky enough to be cast as an extra on SNL a few times. A few years later, I shifted gears to planning corporate events globally, which gave me the chance to explore places like Ireland, London, Rome, and Hawaii. My love for video production eventually brought me to Lawline, where I’ve been contributing to the Production team and helping the company and our content evolve for over 7 years now.

Outside of work, you can find me sipping an espresso martini, traveling, playing video games, enjoying desserts, working out or spending time with my loved ones.

Joy Payne, Creative Content Producer

Storytelling and the entertainment industry are my passions. In my free time, you’ll often find me watching my favorite TV series, Abbott Elementary.

Daniel Gomez, Technical Producer

The Storyteller Behind the Lens

Hi, I’m Daniel—a video production enthusiast with a passion for philosophy and storytelling. I hold a B.A. in Philosophy from Brooklyn College and an MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU. My video production journey started in my teens, and I’ve since worked freelance with organizations like the Asian American Federation and MOMA R&D, where my work was showcased in 2018. When I'm not deep into reading philosophers or rewriting screenplays, I’m either behind a camera or out on the soccer field.

Oi Wo Mark, Director of Engineering

Codes and Cuisines

Born in Macau, China, and raised in Hong Kong, I have a love for both traditional Asian food and cutting-edge tech. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Software Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of NYU, and I’m passionate about all things tech—whether it’s frontend, backend, or finding the latest tools for projects. When I’m not immersed in coding or tech blogs, you’ll catch me gaming, exploring new restaurants, or enjoying time with my wife, Mian, and our two kids, Marwan and Makayla.

Alberto Mayanga, Senior Software Engineer

Code, Soccer, and Soundtracks

I grew up in New Jersey and have called it home my whole life. My interest in coding started in high school when I took a class on Visual Basic (VB), a programming language. I was hooked right away—it never felt like work, more like a hobby I couldn’t get enough of. That passion led me to pursue a degree in Computer Science, and after graduating, I focused on expanding my skills in full-stack development, ultimately building a career I love.

When I’m not coding, you’ll probably find me watching MLS, cheering on the NY Red Bulls, or following the US national team. I also love playing soccer, staying active, and working out. Outside of sports, I’m always up for trying new restaurants, discovering music, and catching live shows—trying new dishes and live music is my kind of fun.

Michael Sullivan, Senior Software Engineer

When I'm not building web applications, I'm spending quality time with my family and our two cats, Nico and Luna, or enjoying the latest films at the local theater.

In his free time, Frank enjoys gaming, watching movies, trying out new restaurants, and playing with his dogs.

Jocelyn Strauber, Director of Marketing

My Love for Life Events

I was born and raised in Manhattan and still call it home.  I majored in English Literature in college and developed a passion for storytelling, communication, and understanding the human experience. This foundation led me toward a career in publishing, and from there, to marketing—an area where creativity, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of customer behavior all intersect. What excites me about marketing is the psychology behind it—the opportunity to understand what truly motivates people, what captures their attention, and what drives them to take action.

Before joining Lawline, I worked at ESPN in various marketing roles, where I gained invaluable experience managing diverse campaigns and learning how to engage audiences across different platforms.

Outside of work, you’ll find me listening to live music, discovering new restaurants, spending time with family, or exploring neighborhoods for inspiration. I believe that trying new things—whether it's a unique dish, a new genre of music, or a different approach to a marketing challenge—is essential to staying curious, creative, and connected.

Mike Shafland, Senior Acquisition Marketing Manager

Empanada Enthusiast & Adventure Seeker

I'm currently Lawline's Senior Acquisition Marketing Manager. I’ve had the chance to wear a lot of hats at Lawline—from customer service problem-solver to studio course producer.

Before joining the team, I spent 8 months traveling through South America, indulging in all kinds of empanadas and learning Spanish (in order to more effectively order empanadas).

Outside of work, you can find me traveling to new places, birdwatching, playing tennis, trying unique foods, or riding my bike around NYC.
