How We Celebrated Bring Your Child to Work Day

By Miylie Roan

There is something really special about letting the people you work with see a part of your life that usually stays tucked away from the job. That's exactly what happened when we celebrated National Bring Your Child to Work Day with a virtual event that brought our kids into the Lawline world, even just for a little while.

What we did

We hosted a virtual event where employees brought their kids on camera to meet the team. The result was exactly what you'd hope for and more. Tiny faces peering into cameras with absolutely no filter. Honest, unscripted moments that only children can create. Parents trying to hold it together while their kids stole the show completely, and nobody minded one bit.

Bring Your Child to Work Day exists because the boundary between work life and home life, while important, is also somewhat artificial. The people who show up to do great work every day are also parents, caregivers, and role models for the little people watching them closely at home. Giving kids a window into what their parents actually do, and who they do it with, is meaningful in a way that goes well beyond a fun event on the calendar.

For remote workers especially, this day carries extra weight. Our kids see us at our desks every single day but they don't always understand what we're doing there or why it matters. Getting to introduce them, even virtually, to the teammates and culture their parent is part of helps make that real and tangible.

The fact that people showed up with genuine enthusiasm and let their kids run the show for a few minutes says a lot about who we are. Nobody had to be there. Everyone wanted to be. When your team looks forward to spending extra time together just because it's fun and human, you're doing something right.

Thank you to everyone who joined and to the kids who entertained us without even trying. You were the best guests we've ever had. 👧🧒
