How Bad Do You Want to Be Successful?

David Schnurman | October 19, 2011

A shout out to Yury from LegalHelp.org for sharing this video with me.  Below are two quotes that I really liked around 3 minutes into it.

Most of you say you want to be successful but you do not want it bad you just kind of want it. You do not want it as much you want to party or be cool. You do want to be successful as much as you want to sleep. Some of you love sleep more then you love success. And I am here to tell you today if you are going to be successful you have to be willing to give up sleep. If you want to be successful you might have to stay up three days in a row because if you go to sleep you might miss the opportunity to be successful...

When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breath then you will be successful. If you have asthma and you have a shortness of breath the only thing you care about it trying to breath. You dont care about basketball, tv, a party, friends, the only thing you care about is getting fresh air. When you get to the point when you want to be successful as bad as you want to breath then you will be successful.

After I put this post live Yury emailed the below quote which sums of modern society perfectly.

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered "Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived."
