Employee Spotlight: April 2022

Miylie Roan | April 18, 2022

Lawline has recently hired 3 new employees (Erika, Taiwo, and Ivy) who all bring so much value to the Lawline team. Check out below what they had to say about their time at Lawline so far.

Erika Tremblay - Applications & Approval Coordinator

How was the interview process for you?

The interview process was really impressive. In the first interview, Alyssa Mrzljak (Lawline’s Business Operations Manager) had interesting questions that I believe were great ways to get an idea on the person that I am and how I work with others. My second interview was with several members of the team that I’d be working with. It started with an outline of how the interview would go, which allowed me to have context and feel prepared.

Joining a fully remote company, what did you imagine Lawline would be like?

Before the pandemic, I probably would have been more curious about how employees and teams connect, but I was comfortable knowing I’d be using video and chats to communicate. However, as soon as I interviewed with Alyssa and then some of the Customer Experience Team, I knew right away that Lawline had created an efficient remote work process. Everyone seemed really connected and even in my first week, I’ve realized everything is very organized and there’s a lot of communication and collaboration.

What was your first week like at Lawline?

My first week has been amazing. Everyone is so warm and welcoming, I’ve met a lot of colleagues, and the onboarding schedule isn’t overwhelming. I’m learning and have the time to absorb information and ask questions. Change is usually challenging, but all I’ve felt is excitement and a drive to learn more!

What would you say is your biggest GROW moment so far?

I don’t have much experience with lawyers or the law in general, but I’m quickly learning there are so many different pieces to the legal system. Learning about legal education has been so enlightening! I’ve also listened to two podcasts by our Chief Storyteller, Sigalle Barness, on Lawyers Who Lead. The leadership topics are relatable even outside of the legal landscape; wisdom on leadership is always great personal and professional development!

Is there anything else that you would like to share?

I already feel like part of the team and I’m so impressed with the onboarding process and my colleagues. I’m already feeling really proud to say I work at Lawline.

How was the interview process for you?

The interview process was smooth and I didn't experience unnecessary back and forth. It was seamless from one stage to another. I was glad I progressed and the interviewers were satisfied with me and my capability for the role. Much appreciation to the recruiter Kathleen Nealon who I partnered with in order to find this role and her effort in the preparation and ensuring a smooth interview process.

Joining a fully remote company, what did you imagine Lawline would be like?

I came from a hybrid company with opportunities to physically see your colleagues and as I I had imagined,Lawline is completely different being a fully remote company. It's a whole new process and system that I am still adjusting to, butI can also say that I'm quite happy with the new environment and people I work with.

What was your first week like at Lawline?

My first week in Lawline was eventful. It was a very busy week but in the end I also realized that it was one of the best weeks so far. The fact that being a fully remote company, the onboarding programs were tailored in a way that you would be able to meet all of the departments in the company including meeting specific individuals and asking about their role and how it relates to your department. Every staff member speaks volumes about the company culture. I had fun and there's so much to learn.

What would you say is your biggest GROW moment so far?

My biggest GROW moment so far is my ability to "Navigate the Code Base" of Lawline. This has resulted in me pushing through my first ticket a week after my on-boarding process. I was told in my department that it is not easy to understand and navigate the base because it is large and with the use of both old and new frameworks with lots of files stored, it posed great difficulty walking through them. This achievement made me grow better by the day and helped me further to understand other functions and other aspects of the code base.

Is there anything else that you would like to share?

Lawline has good culture initiatives such as daily chats in the slack channels focused around random daily topics, animals, parenting, etc. that were created to share pictures and jokes in the company which helps bond with colleagues. Truly, there is beauty in diversity and this is evident in Lawline!

How was the interview process for you?

The interview process was seamless and very clear throughout. From the first initial conversation, the goals were clear, there was transparency with pay and processing, and it was very timely.

Joining a fully remote company, what did you imagine Lawline would be like?

I have worked remotely for the past two years, so my expectations were met and exceeded. I will note that Lawline put clear effort into making me feel a part of the team!

What was your first week like at Lawline?

My first week was a good deep dive into the organization, the operations and the people that drive this company. I met many people, had the opportunity to join a company-wide team building exercise right at the beginning, and experienced my new job very hands-on.

What would you say is your biggest GROW moment so far?

My biggest GROW moment so far is relearning that my ideas and contributions have stock. Everyone at Lawline has already encouraged me to speak up with any new ideas, foster any practices I think would be beneficial, and have made me feel like my role is important for this organization.

Is there anything else that you would like to share?

From the interview process to onboarding to now diving into my role head first, Lawline has already shown that we have a great company culture! I am excited for what the rest of the year has in store!
